AS SEEN ON
Does this sound familiar?
Everything changes when you have access to information that makes you have ah-ha moments.
There aren't a lot of online spaces where we can talk about what happened to us.
We have to scour the internet and try to find the right books that help us understand how we found ourselves indoctrinated in the first place.
We need an expert to point us in the right direction but we don't quite know where to find them.
Cult groups are full of magical thinking.
Religious trauma teaches that you can't pay attention to your instincts.
Rigid groups use guilt to control and manipulate you.
No more feeling overwhelmed with trying to find the right place to get education.
No more scouring Instagram and TikTok trying to find folks that get it.

I am a clinical psychologist that specializes in religious trauma. I've helped my clients understand their experiences and leave their culty groups with dignity and self-understanding.
But before I specialized in helping others get out of these toxic environments and communities, I was surviving my own religious trauma.
I lived through fear-mongering and unending messages about hell.
I was guilt-tripped for having normal human experiences.
I was terrified to lose every relationship that was important to me.
I felt like something was wrong with me for having questions.
I was isolated from the outside world.
When I broke free of the guilt, shame, and fear, I needed support from people who knew what it was like to be a part of a group like this.
That's why this membership means so much to me.
You deserve support.
You deserve compassion and understanding.
Who is this membership for?
Religious trauma and spiritual abuse happen in the most surprising places.
This membership is for you if you were a part of...

Emotional Manipulation
Learn the six tactics of emotional manipulation and how you can spot these happening in your relationships. Learn to advocate and set boundaries in your recovery.
Purity Culture
Many culty groups will insist on purity of body, mind and spirit. This can cause havoc on sexual development and healthy relationships in adulthood. Learn the history of purity culture in fundamentalist religions and how to reclaim your body.
4 Trauma Responses
Learn the particulars of how our brain and bodies respond to trauma. Learn specific ways these trauma responses are used in culty and traumatizing groups to keep people engaged.
Nervous System Regulation
Learn tips and tools for nervous system regulation. Most religious trauma survivors have been living in a trauma response for decades and need to feel calm and in control again.

Are you wondering why a lot of cult leaders seem to show some similar features? We teach you how to spot narcissistic features and behaviors using the examples of previous notorious cult leaders.
Do you struggle to even know if what you experienced was religious trauma or spiritual abuse?
Scared about how life is going to change if you experience doubt.
Worried that you might be wrong and you'll regret leaving your group.
Full of self-doubt because you've been controlled for so long.
Easily triggered and overwhelmed most of the time.
Intense guilt and shame after a lifetime of being guilted and shamed.
Like you're broken after years inside of an abusive group.
Life changes dramatically when you can put your trauma behind you.
Imagine walking through the world with less fear and anxiety because you are no longer hearing daily messages about hell, God's punishment, or other fear-mongering tactics. Traumatizing groups will leave you fearing for your future in ways that hold you back from so many things. This leaves so many anxious and worried about most things in their life
Imagine repairing your relationships with family and friends that you had to cut off in order to stay a part of the restrictive group. Restrictive groups often make relationships with our nearest and dearest feel dangerous so we have to distance ourselves.
Imagine enjoying everyday activities (like reading, art, movies, sports, or food) that you once believed were wrong to enjoy. Cult groups will often restrict your activities, joy, and relationships with the "outside world" in order to keep you compliant and scared.
Imagine coping with normal life stress without fear that you are deeply sinful or flawed for being worried, sad, angry, or overwhelmed. Traumatizing groups will teach you that your human emotions are proof that you are broken, wrong, or unwise. Imagine reclaiming your humanity without so much fear of what it means about you.
Big Joan Didion fan here! When I read her powerful book My Year of Magical Thinking as she grieves the sudden loss of her husband and the harrowing medical experiences of her daughter, I was moved by how often her brain was attempting to help her make sense of her trauma through magical thinking. This is exactly what happens in rigid and cult-like groups: we have to use magical thinking in order to make sense of our confusing, traumatic, and upsetting experiences within these communities.
A Year of Non-Magical Thinking membership will help you untangle the magical thinking you had to use to survive the trauma. We are here to clarify and educate you on what happened to you psychologically within these high-control and high-demand groups.
What if I don't want to participate in the group discussions?
We are often forced into participation in our old traumatic communities. In this community, we give you complete permission to lurk or engage as much or as little as you like.
Is there a private group page for members?
Yes! Members will gain access to a private Facebook group where members can ask questions and share resources. Some of us are just getting out of our groups and we need a lot of privacy. You can lurk, engage as much as you'd like or stay as private as needed.
If it's not a good fit, can I leave?
Heck yes! We will never hold you captive like culty groups do. So come and stay as long as you'd like, learn as much as you can, and leave when you're ready. You can even restart the membership at a later date if you need to take a bit of a break.
I don't live in California. Can I still participate?
Absolutely. We've created a virtual space for you to ask questions and chat with others in the membership. This means that it's open to anyone and everyone who is looking to heal from religious trauma.
How do I know this is for me?
This membership is for anyone who has experienced trauma as a result of a rigid or overbearing religious organization or a cult. This includes Qanon, fringe religious groups, dooms-day cults, and fundamental religious spaces.
I have a family member in a cult. Is this for me?
Absolutely. I want to provide education for anyone that might benefit. This can be helpful for those experiencing cult abuse and for those trying to support family members experiencing this.
Regaining your mental health after years of religious or cult manipulation changes everything. You deserve to understand what happened to you.
